Black Finn – A Bar for the New-Age Alcoholic Chad Jeffery

Sometimes, you walk into a bar and you can just feel that you are going to have a good time.  Sometimes, you walk into a bar and the atmosphere is so adept to your personality that you already know you will be coming back very soon.  The Black Finn, the new hot spot in Royal Oak, is just that type of place.

Set in a great location on Main Street in Downtown Royal Oak the Black Finn offers a little something for everyone.  The New York style pub as they call it, is decked out with wood floors, giant bars, hidden rooms and high-definition flat-screens in any direction you look.   If you were at the Black Finn for a game, you could stand anywhere in the bar except for the restroom and have a clear view of a television.

I attended the Black Finn for one of their many special opening events so there are a few things I cannot tell you about.  I don’t know what drink prices range from because all drinks were on special for $3 all night.  I have no idea how good the food is since they were only serving appetizers that night due to the anticipated crowd size.  Despite these missing items, I can assure you based on the rest of the evening it won’t matter how good the food is and you will be more than willing to pay a little extra for the entertainment.

The Black Finn is a very spacious environment, with tables for dining on both walls and a giant bar in the center of the room.  There is plenty of room to move around even when the crowd was a little over capacity.  Once the aura of the new club in-town wears off it will be an even better place to frolic.

My least favorite part about the Black Finn was the fact that there is no dance floor, but everyone was dancing in all different parts of the bar.  It was like being at a spring break pool-party in that aspect.  A DJ dropped songs from all genres of music that you would want to hear during a night out.  The bartenders and waitresses were friendly and the party just didn’t seem to stop.

Black Finn gets five stars from me.  When I say it’s a bar for the new-age alcoholic, I don’t mean the wino walking down the street.  I mean the twenty-something who wants somewhere to go any night of the week to watch a game, get some dinner, take a date or pull out your dancing shoes.  I can say one thing with absolute certainty; I will be going back to the Black Finn very soon and so should you.
