Man raises money for African relief trip

As some of you know and others are about to find out, I will be attending Crossroads Community Church of Cincinnati’s annual mission trip to South Africa this year.  Crossroads is the church my brother and his wife Alison attend and they have both had an amazing experience participating in this event for the last few years.  To further explain I have provided the full description in the next paragraph.

This coming winter, November 13th-29th, 400 people from Crossroads will be heading to Mamelodi, South Africa.  Mamelodi is a large township just outside of Pretoria, the capital city of South Africa.  Due to the injustices of apartheid, Mamelodi is one of the poorest places in South Africa.  Crossroads has an existing partnership with a church in Mamelodi called Charity and Faith Mission, and we are joining them, in person, to serve their immediate community.  We’ll be planting sustainable vegetable gardens, repairing and building homes, playing with and teaching children about God, visiting with AIDS patients, and praying with people in the community.  We will also have the privilege of celebrating Thanksgiving with Charity and Faith Church!

This trip provides an opportunity to meet the physical and spiritual needs of a community that is desperately in need.  I am extremely excited to be going and although as most of you know I have never been an overly religious individual, I am looking at this opportunity with an open-mind to see where my brother, and the people of both Crossroads and Charity and Faith Mission get their inspiration and resolve from.  More than anything, I hope that I have your wishes for a safe and fulfilling journey, but with the big expense of this endeavor I am also hoping that you will help me financially support this mission to which I would be forever grateful.

Our group needs to raise approximately $1,200,000 to cover the total cost of the trip. My personal contribution to this mission is $3,000 plus the cost of vaccinations.  We will have to be creative to raise the money, and I want to extend an invitation to you to participate.  To make it as easy as possible, there are two easy ways for giving.  The first is by clicking on the link: www.crossroads.net/gomamelodi.

The second way is by sending a check or money order payable to Crossroads with GO Mamelodi and my name, Chad Seddon in the memo section.  The address is as follows:

3500 Madison Rd.
Cincinnati Ohio 45209

I find it easier to donate online as I am an online person, but it is your preference.  The donation is tax deductible and you will be issued a receipt to file with your 2008 return.
